National Historical Memorial Park in Ópusztaszer

The Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park is located on a 55 hectare nature conservation area where - according to Anonymus, the early Middle Ages historiographer - the leaders of the conquering Hungarians agreed on the laws of the country here. During excavations started in 1970, the ruins of the Monastery of Szer were found here.

To commemorate traditional folk architecture of the Great Plain, exhibition halls of the Open Air Ethnographic Museum were erected, together with a range of jurtas in which scientific rarities unique in Europe are displayed. In 1995, the monumental giant canvas entitled „The arrival of the conquering Hungarians” painted by Arpad Feszty and his contemporary painters was restored and displayed in the Memorial Park.
